Now I know where the money came from...

Oh, I almost wanted to rejoice on the additional 1% I am going to get from my CPF accounts.
1% more, for the first 20k in my Ordinary Account.
1% more, for my Special Account & Medisave Account. I figure up to first 40k, since I already have 20k in my OA.

Then I read that instead of having a fixed 4% interest rate for SA and MA as it is right now. It will be "re-pegged to an appropriate long-term bond rate".

According to a news report :
Private sector economists said the rates could be pegged to government-issued bonds.

"If we peg it to a SGS bond, it will definitely be below the target 4 percent rate. Our thoughts are that, they might be looking at a bond issued by say, Temasek, which has typically in previous years averaged returns more than 4 percent. So we can probably enjoy higher returns in that way," said Alvin Liew, economist at UOB Treasury Research.

So, if the govt decides to peg to SGS bond, I will not be getting the 5% in my SA & MA as I thought. It will be lower...

Oh and last night, the news came out. ERP rates increased. More ERP Gantries.

Damn, I knew there isn't going to be free money....

Again, I should practise what I preach...

My usual investment strategy... If you are happy with a product or service, check the company that produces it. Might be a good investment opportunity.

Remember last year, I bought a new toy ? (Hint)

Well, I should have taken my own advise. Missed an opportunity :

Garmin Stock

I would have a neat 90% growth if I had bought it in August/September 2006.

Maybe I should study the company more to see if it is still worth investing...

For me to do something meaningful...

Contributions of money here and there to charities are not really that meaningful to me anymore.

A friend is now deeply involved in helping the Hmong refugee camps in Thailand.
http://newlifeoutreach.blogspot.com/

I am now asking for all your assistance. As individuals, I think I am not in any power to change the situation.

But I can contribute a little to their living and making it more comfortable : Winter is coming soon. And many will die in the refugee camp.

If you have any blankets and winter clothes to donate, please let me know.
If you feel like making monetary donations, please let me know too.
Or you can contact the site author directly.

This is going to be totally trust-based, though I am sure the author (my friend) will do his utmost to ensure that donations and trusts are not abused. But we have to know, he has no money to hire accountants.

A Week of Fun...

Last week, I was overseas in Bangkok, in part a retreat to celebrate my birthday. It was enjoyable to say the least.

Weekend trip to BKK, relax and shopping aint bad. Though I am not really a good shopper.

The only interesting thing that happened was in the Hotel room. Shan't say which hotel it was, but it wasn't any 5-star ones.

Seems decent at first. Then at night, while laying on the bed to watch TV, I spotting a small black dot on the white bedsheet... It moved... *eyes wide*

It looked like a bed bug. Then I looked around, hoping that I was wrong about it. Then I found one more, under a pillow. Then another one. That's it.

Changed room. Haha.. Ok, that was my first encounter with a bed bug. Should have taken a photo.

The only other 2 memorable encounters were in Philippines : A cockroach at my night-stand when I woke up one morning ; A small and cute mouse in my 3-bedroom suite which took 4 guys to kill and get rid of.

*~*~*~*~*

The day after I returned from my holiday, I went on a company anniversary holiday :

Cruise - Virgo

A 2-day-2-night cruise to :

1 day in Redang

My first time on a cruise. It was ok. The cabins are a bit small though, and no fridge. Not sure if it is smaller than First World Hotel in Genting , hahaha.

Won about $150 on my virgin try at roulette. Took the money and ran. So whatever I spent on this trip is free, wahahaha....

Lots of Swenson ice-creams, free food, spent $100 credits (Balcony class) on drinks...

*~*~*~*~*

Ok. A week of fun. My holiday tomorrow will probably be quite tame.. And time to get back to work... *headache*
